Born in China and raised in Chicago, Dr. Jeanne Wei moved to Arkansas in 2002 to serve as professor and executive vice chair of the Donald W. Reynolds department of geriatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She had only visited Little Rock a handful of times, but had quickly become captivated by the city and people.

“Little Rock felt as though it was a city built within a forest, very beautiful and serene,” she said. “When I moved here, I was most surprised by the friendliness and warmth of the many Arkansans – young and old alike – who have now truly become lifelong friends.”

In 2009, Wei received her current title at UAMS as executive director of the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and chair of the department of geriatrics, where her body of work and research greatly benefits the aging population in Arkansas and beyond.

“I am privileged to work in a wonderful place where we are able to combine education, research and clinical care all under one roof, which is unique in the nation. I see patients as a geriatrician and cardiologist in the Thomas & Lyon Longevity Center, where it’s our goal to provide individualized, patient-centered care. Our patients have given so much throughout their lives. We love being able to give back to them as we support both our patients and their caregivers throughout their life’s journey.”

Wei calls Little Rock’s vibrant River Market district home and says it allows her to enjoy the true heart and soul of the city. “It’s a short walk to many wonderful places, including a number of restaurants and shops, the farmers market, the Clinton Presidential Center and Robinson Center Music Hall.”
